Who is up for a weekend of bag making? This is a repeat of the really successful weekend held in November 22

On Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th  of March,  I am running a two-day Zoom Workshop making the Grainline Portside Travel Set which is a weekend travel bag set.

The Portside Travel Set comprises a weekend bag (20” x 11” x 12”), a smaller devices or toiletries bag (9” x 4” 6 ¼”) and a travel wallet 9” x 7 ½”.  I originally made this set in 2018 for a family trip to New York. Since then, these bags have been all over Europe and the UK. They are sturdy, durable, and look great. It is terrific to customise your bag with a fabric of your choice. You will never lose your luggage again!

The weekend bag has two carry hands and a removable strap so the bag can be hung over a shoulder. The small bag has been ideal for cables and chargers but would be equally suitable for toiletries (or sewing supplies!), and the travel wallet is great for documents, a book, a kindle or stationery.

To see what others have created with this pattern, I created a Portside Travel Set Pinterest Board to share with you.

What You Will Need

2.4m outer fabric, 1.7m lining fabric, 2.6m of 60cm fusible interfacing, four zips & webbing, 0.75m mesh (optional interior mesh pockets in a weekend bag), internal zip for the weekend bag (optional)

The fabric used could be home décor, canvas or a cotton twill fabric, or it could be your favourite quilting weight cotton.

You will also need (4) 1 ¼” D Rings and (2) 3” swivel bolt snaps – which I can provide.

Sadly this pattern is no longer in hard copy print so I will buy the required number of PDF copies and  A0 patterns created and posted to each participant at the end of September.

You will receive a complete requirements list after booking.

Prep Call in February

On 1st Feb at 7 pm, I will hold a prep call to ensure everybody knows what they need and answer all questions. On this call, we can also discuss your options for interfacing, which will depend on how structured you want the bags to be. This call will be available on replay.

You will need to cut the pattern, fabrics and interfacing out ahead of the weekend.

11th -12th March Weekend Plans

The weekend will be relaxed and fun. I will teach from 10 am – 4 pm, but the sewing-together time will extend to 5 pm on Saturday. We will focus on the weekend bag on Saturday and Sunday on the smaller bag. The session on Sunday will run from 10 am-3 pm. A short video will be available for the dopp bag and wallet construction just in case everybody doesn’t make it that far.

It’s always fun to sew and laugh together …. Who is in? I am limiting this to fifteen places. To provide the patterns for the meeting, 1st February please book before 16th January. If you are booking after this date, I will post the pattern out you as quickly as possible. A recording of the call on 1st February will be available from 3rd February for all to watch.
