Description
Pattern hacking and adapting patterns to suit your taste and style are two of my favourite things. Sewing patterns are expensive, so making the most of them makes sense.
In this extended class with fourteen teaching hours, we take the Lyra dress and learn how to hack it.
- Combine the top from the Darling Range Dress to the base of the Lyra Dress, creating a very Summery alternative.
- Create three shirt options from the Lyra Dress – a loose-fitting overshirt (imagine linen on a hot day), a standard shirt with a rounded collar and optional (classy) frills and a grandfather shirt collar option with peplum finish.
- Create a round-collared swing jacket with a round collar.
This class runs for three weeks. In week 1, we create your hacked dress pattern, adding any full or small but adjustment, shoulder adjustment, lengthening or shortening. We will also start the shirt hack.
In week two, we will continue one of the three shirt options, and you will have details of how to develop and sew all three. After this, you can draft the jacket or start to sew.
Bring fabric in week three (an extended class), and we will sew up the garment of your choice.
By the end of the class, you will have five new patterns, plus the originals and be confident in hacking patterns to add and subtract elements, add fullness or created a more fitted look, and combine patterns you like to make garments that suit you best
