It is time to dust off your Christmas Tree Fabrics and get creative. This fun free Christmas sewing challenge is for anyone of any age anywhere in the World. Particularly in the UK where we are in our second lockdown, this light-hearted activity is offered as a way to be part of something small and creative.
For November, I challenge you to make one thing with my super simple Christmas Tree templates. The templates are foundation pieced and if you have never tried foundation piecing, I have a quick start foundation piecing video that you can access here.
Should I Have a Go At A Sewing Challenge?
If you are thinking that there is no way that your sewing would be good enough for this. STOP RIGHT THERE. This is a bit of fun. All I need is a picture. Nobody is going to inspect your sewing; we just want to celebrate sewing. So yes, you should have a go and meet lots of fun people having a go along the way.
What Do I Need to Do to Join In With The Sewing Fun?
Download the Christmas Tree Foundation Piecing Templates from my shop here (they are free, put them in your basket and press checkout). The templates create mini Christmas Trees that are 3 ½” x 4 ½” (or 3”x4” when sewn into something). They need very little fabric and are a perfect solution to use up some scraps of fabric. There are three different mini designs included in the download. All you need to do is make something and include two of my mini Christmas Trees in whatever you make.
You could make anything and include the trees in it; a tote bag, a zipper pouch, a mini quilt, a wall hanging, a fabric basket, a cushion, a table runner ….. You could use a commercial pattern for this item and add in the Christmas tree or make something up yourself.
How Do I Show You My Christmas Item?
That is easy! Just take a picture and send it to me by email (mail@gillymacdesigns.com), or post it on my Facebook page or tag me (#gillymactrees) on Instagram. All pictures need to be sent to me or posted on Facebook or Instagram by 29th November.
Then What Happens?
On the 30th November, I will create a photo album of the Free Christmas Sewing Challenge entries and post them here on my website for you to view. Everybody who enters will be given
- access to my free GillyMac Facebook Club
- a £5 voucher to use on any of my online classes
Additionally, I will pick three of my favourites and send then some goodies, but really this is about a small sewing community event to share what can be done by a creative community.
So Let’s Go !! Please share this with anyone or group you think may enjoy it!
